Head Bleeding at 4 a.m.
The hawk is after me again
she comes
when I go too far, out there
on that intoxicated cliff
confused
wondering what I did,
and did I do it to you
swooping, she comes
with magnificent wingspan spread
blackening out the sun
her beak like golden scissors
eyes intent and cool to kill
she sees through me
the claws outstretched
talons like tiger claws
coming
down
fast
I drop to my knees
I lift my hands
I try to give her everything
but she only takes my heart.
